He meets John Hall DFC, a 92-year-old former Lancaster bomber tail gunner who lost his best friend Hank in 1943 when he was shot down during a bombing raid. He finds that John has never fully recovered from this loss or the guilt he feels about his own survival.
Series 1 - Episode 3: Nightmare on Civvy StreetJournalist Chris Terrill examines why some former soldiers continue to exist in a state of 'hyper-vigilance', where everything and everyone around them is a potential threat. Rudi has been a civilian for 32 years, but as he walks down the street he cannot shake off the feeling of being back on patrol in Northern Ireland.
Series 3 - Episode 4A Welsh pensioner needs surgery after taking a terrifying tumble, a 28-year-old's breathing difficulties mean she has to leave her friends to have a good time without her and an electrician gets a shock when a previous stingray attack flares up.
Series 3 - Episode 3This week, two unlucky holidaymakers demonstrate the dangers lurking in hotel bathrooms. Craig, 73, fell off the toilet just hours after arriving in Benidorm from Lancashire. He landed on a metal pipe sticking out of the wall, and is in so much pain that an ambulance is needed to get him to the hospital. X-rays reveal several fractured ribs, meaning that all holiday plans – and even his flight home – have to be cancelled.
Series 3 - Episode 2Doctors fight to save a great-grandfather whose vital organs have begun to shut down. Dr Ismael Torres treats a man with chronic back pain, a woman covered in infected mosquito bites, and a swimmer with badly cut legs after being thrown onto rocks. A holidaymaker with kidney disease is delighted to receive dialysis treatment in Spain.
Series 3 - Episode 1Dr Iris Henkel finds herself close to the action when young base jumper Maria is dramatically blown off-course whilst leaping 200 metres from the 52nd floor of a local hotel. At the hospital, five-year-old Bradford lad Ashraf is admitted unable to walk following a nasty fall, while Scottish pensioner William has collapsed in his hotel.
Series 1 - Episode 5: Churchills Rocket ParachuteThe team set to work on the most explosive build yet – Churchill's Rocket Parachute. During the Second World War, Winston Churchill asked a secret team of scientists to come up with an ingenious way of making supply drops reach the ground quickly and on target. Troops desperately needed ammunition and equipment, and conventional parachute drops were constantly being shot down by the enemy or blown off course. What was needed was a faster, more accurate route from plane to ground. The scientists came up with the Rocket Parachute, in which three small parachutes would keep the load upright during a high-speed descent, and rockets would kick in to slowthe load down as it approached the ground.

Series 1 - Episode 3: Byzantine Flame-throwing BoatThe Byzantine flame-throwing boat boat once saved the Byzantine Empire from almost certain defeat, but the team is literally playing with fire when they construct it. The wooden boat is highly flammable and they are next to a vat of napalm!
Series 6 - Huge Helicopter: Monster MovesIn the final episode of the series,we follow the engineers preparing the world's most advanced search-and-rescue helicopter for a trip on the world's largest airplane from New York State to its new base in Scotland.
Series 5 - Episode 10The team tackles some boozers in Barrow whose spirits are high, Duggie and Mark look into a car that has come a cropper and the cocky occupants of a Mondeo refuse to face the bald facts about their tyres. Lucky the sniffer dog is brought in to weed out some evidence and a young woman who has skidded off the road on black ice experiences delayed shock.
